Agree with both assessments. Wendell Pierce was tremendous in this role. Also agree about Sharon Clarke being too front and center with her power. I felt the same way about her performance in Caroline or Change last season. She is a talented performer, for sure, and her voice is an amazing instrument - but the strength of her persona was just too much for both of these roles.
I enjoyed this production very much, particularly the second act, which really highlights the brilliance of Miller’s play as a work of art strong enough to benefit from new interpretations. |
