I saw that production when I was 11 and my God was it exciting! The original Oliver Smith/Cecil Beaton designs were beautiful. I still remember the thrill of the Covent Garden backdrops when the curtain went up. Old-fashioned by today's standards, perhaps, but it made me gasp. And having loved The Ghost and Mrs, Muir on TV, I was excited to see Captain Gregg himself as Higgins. It was a wonderful introduction to that play: the first of many wonderful productions but none has matched it in excitement.
