She did indeed. PLAYBILL used to publish something called the Broadway Theatre Guide, which was a pamplet given out for free at all the theatres and in various locations around Times Square. It was essentially an ABC listing of every show playing on Broadway with all the information you'd need to know about each one (theatre, address, ticket prices, phone number, etc). This was pre-internet and pre-smartphone and it was a really handy thing to have if you wanted information.
Anyhow, one of the pieces of info they included was the running time. And for the 1990's revival of HELLO, DOLLY!, the running time listed included Channing's curtain speech to the minute. I was curious about that and actually checked my watch when she finished and the curtain came down. It was the exact running time published in the BTG. |
