"Funny Girl" - some great songs, very problematic script mostly after intermission
"Camelot" - wonderful score, some fine scenes, but some very boring ones can make this a slog to actually sit through while waiting for the next song (hopefully the revival does a big re-write that works)
"Grease" - fun, but not a particularly great score or book
"Mame" - hard to cast nowadays star part (sophisticated but somehow down-to-earth star ladies who can really put over "If He Walked Into My Life" and jitterbug aren't minted much nowadays), some great songs, some filler, problematic book not as good or funny as the original play
"A Little Night Music" - wonderful score -- main problem is there's too much exposition establishing the characters before the plot really begins |
