Am I correct that, aside from the score for To Kill a Mockingbird, this is the first public performance of a new Guettel work since Light in the Piazza (which premiered in Seattle in 2003)?
Kelli O'Hara can obviously sing and she is a good actress, but I agree with those who are saying that she doesn't project a lot of passion and fire. I'm very conscious that I'm watching her rather than really being engaged with her and her character. I hope she can hit the emotional notes needed for this character.
It looks like Lemmon was around 37 and Remick around 26 at the time the movie was made. |
