For plays it requires a bit more to make the list, it has to be a production I thought clicked perfectly on all levels AND really stand out as special - I find with plays, many more productions are solidly excellent and I wouldn't have anything to change, but don't make the leap to the category of memorably incredible and extraordinary.
My list includes, off the top of my head of what I've seen:
-Our Town 2009 off-broadway revival by David Cromer
-Blasted at Soho Rep by Sarah Benson
-Journey's End 2007 Broadway revival by David Grindley
-The Real Thing 2000 Broadway revival by David Leveaux
-The Norman Conquests (trilogy) 2009 Broadway revival by Mathew Warchus
-Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf 2005 Broadway revival by Anthony Page
-Death of a Salesman 2012 broadway revival by Mike Nichols |
