Yes, but Madeline Kahn did not complete the season for On the Twentieth Century, yet seven years after the Tonys nominated Kert, they refused to consider Judy Kaye eligible. It could be because Jones's leaving was completely voluntary, it could be because Jones left a bit earlier after the opening than Kahn did, it could be because there was the cover story of illness for Jones (even though everyone knew it wasn't true, andI I think Jones may have even admitted in print before the Tony nominations that it wasn't true). Or because they thought Hal Prince shouldn't get a pass like this again.
Maybe Feuer and Martin lobbied against allowing Kaye to be considered eligible, although I would think that perhaps Prince had more pull with the Tonys committee than they did. |
