|Yes, it was the cast album signing, which was inside the theater and apparently only with Lea Michele, Ramin Karimloo, Tovah Feldshuh, and Jared Grimes.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but it's a big event in one sense: not for the reason that Funny Girl's producers think, but I believe this is the first "official" indoor audience interaction that's happened between Broadway actors and cast members since the pandemic started. From photos, it looks like the audience had to wear masks but the cast members did not. There was plexiglass on the audience end of the table so there was some separation, but the plexiglass was fairly short with a large opening to hand the cast member the CD booklet to sign, so I don't think the plexiglass was so much a COVID barrier in itself as opposed to a means to keep some distance between the audience member and the cast member. The table width looks like it's only about 2-3 ft, so the audience members were quite close, although each audience member was only interacting with each cast member for 10-15 seconds in all likelihood before moving down to the next cast member. With hundreds of people in line, things are kept moving. It also looks like the cast members passed the CD booklet down the table to each other (which is what usually happens at a CD signing), so there wasn't a lot of direct interaction with cast members for the audience.
