The Tony Administration and Nominating Committees have zero input into what gets on the presentation. They are about the award itself, not the production of the TV show.
The comparison to Larry Kert is inapt for a number of reasons. That was a one-time anomaly long ago that will likely never be repeated, but it was also a very different scenario than Lea Michele. “Funny Girl” was eligible last season (Jared Grimes was nominated). This is a standard-issue replacement in the following season, happens all the time. It doesn’t usually happen with such a striking result, but it’s nothing like the Larry Kert situation.
Now, who knows, they could decide to give Lea a special Tony. That’s happened before. But I doubt it. |
