RIDE THE CYCLONE opened Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on November 30th 2016 and played through December 18th. It was amazing! I couldn't believe it didn't transfer. Isherwood praised the show in the Times: "This delightfully weird and just plain delightful show... will provide the kind of thrills we look for in all musical comedies, however outlandish their subject matter: an engaging and varied score, knocked out of the park by a superlative cast, and a supremely witty book." All true. Then it disappeared from New York, re-emerging in multiple regional productions. A month after seeing CYCLONE I saw THE BAND'S VISIT at the Atlantic and was thrilled all over again. The American musical lives! Well, THE BAND'S VISIT lived, thank god. But this genuine gem played three weeks at the Lortel and vanished. How come?
