Goldman my be "given somewhat short shrift in the musical" but at least she's gloriously there, unlike the movie of the book which eliminates her altogether. Might that have had anything to do with "Reds" wherein Maureen Stapleton as Goldman walks off with the film(no surprise). Even the "big" ultimate reunion between Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton pales in comparison to the earlier reunion between Beatty and Stapleton. Of course, Beatty directing does Keaton no favors by filming her from the back at that moment. The earlier scene had Stapleton showing Goldman's heightened emotions.
