I fully forgot that Audrey 2 is basically written to have the voice of a black person. It's a plant, an alien plant no less... but the way the plat's songs and dialogue are written seem clearly for a black person, and I am fairly sure has never been cast otherwise in a *major* production.
Audrey 2 is definitely more of a character with a voice than the 3 black "urchins", Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon. But technically Little Shop has 4 major parts conceived for black people. Casting the rest of the show as white is not, I don't think, written into the show at all. |
