| No, she did not discover this later in life. Her mother revealed to her when she was becoming an adult that her paternal grandmother was African American. She kept this a secret until later in her life and said it was because she did not want to be limited in her roles (anymore than she was by her personality and idiosyncrasies) Later in her life she revealed and claimed pride in her Blackness saying this was made her the unique entertainer she was. |
