Not only was My Neighbour Totoro easily the best thing that I saw over the past year, it was quite possibly the greatest theatrical experience of my life. I found myself incredibly moved by much of it, especially in the first act. It is gorgeously theatrical, clever, and the direction and the performances in particular are beautifully, beautifully detailed and nuanced. It's like a cartoon come to life.
It looked far too expensive to just be a Christmas show at the Barbican, and I'm sure future plans will be announced soon. It deserves to be the next Lion King and sell out for years all the over the world and I hope it makes a lot of money for the RSC. They've really pulled off something extraordinarily special.
