I've been a fan of Brendan Fraser's films, like ''Gods and Monsters,'' ''The Mummy.'' I even caught his Broadway debut in ''Elling'' (2010), which only lasted 9 performances.
But the movie of ''The Whale'' was a blubbering fail for me. Neither Fraser nor Hong Chau could overcome the plot contrivances of this depressingly, melodramatic piece of claptrap.
Fraser and Chau did get Oscar nominations, but ''The Whale'' was shut out for Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay. And its Critics rating at Rotten Tomatoes is 67%. |
