Exactly. They went back to Kaufman and Hart in making her an actress in the revision, but the difference was that she was already a big star when she and her producer-husband asked Richard Niles (Franklin Shepard) to write a light comedy for her.
Mentioned in a section of the party scene that was cut before rehearsals, Gussie is short for Augusta, which was noted in the scene to typically be an upper-class name. |
