And if you are a lead then yes, you likely have an agent. But not all cast members do.
I was in the ensemble of a long-running West End show for a number of years and while I was thrilled to be there, the pay was shocking. The only way to make up for it was to cover other roles which slightly increased your salary (roughly an extra £25 per week per roles covered.....I covered 2) and certainly paid off when you went on. I covered one of the leads and would get an additional 1/8 of my salary for each performance which was great, but it was still maybe half the money I would have made in the US.
For actors touring in the UK it is even worse. You are expected to sort out your own accomodation AND your own travel from city to city....and it is at your own expense. |
