The whole not-for-profit versus commercial off-Broadway binary is also blurred by the large amount of "commercial enhancement" money that goes into many, many productions at not-for-profit theaters, and by the increasing number of Broadway transfers from those theaters in recent years (and by theaters programming with an eye towards what they hope will transfer to Broadway)...not to mention that several institutional off-Broadway theaters also have Broadway spaces that they need to program for...so I don't think the distinction between commercial and not-for-profit and even Broadway and off-Broadway is as clear as it was 20 years ago...
