Can’t think of examples off the top of my head, but I don’t really understand the notion of a tour cannibalizing potential NYC audience.

Isn’t it meant to be an open run once it opens on Broadway? So it’s counting on a theoretically “infinite” pool of theater goers anyway. If the show can go out to markets around the country and get people to pay to see it before coming to NYC, that money is just as green as money they might get on Broadway. How is one cannibalizing the other, when it’s all money going into the producers’ pockets?

I can see that argument when a second company goes on tour while the first is still on Broadway. But not understanding your reasoning in this scenario. How could it cannibalize?
