Why is Kimberly Akimbo doing so poorly at the box office?

I'm truly sorry if this has been discussed before here, but I searched ATC before I posted this and could not find the thread, assuming I'm correct.

I saw the show recently and like virtually everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed it. If I had to sum it up, I guess I'd call it playfully crude, funny but etched in pathos. It's surely going to garner multiple Tony nominations and right now I'd have to consider it the favorite for Best Musical and (for Bonnie Mulligan), Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. And as we know, the reviews were absolute raves, and I suspect that word of mouth has been very positive.

So for the first time in quite a while I took a look at the weekly grosses and was stunned by how poorly the show seems to be selling. That's almost an understatement, as it's one of the weakest grossing shows on all of Broadway, by a long shot.

Why?
