I enjoyed KIMBERLY quite a lot, but I think a few things contribute to soft sales. The marketing may lead people to think the show is overly-cutesy (something I had previously believed), and not the crass character study it actually is. The tone is all over the place ... is this a sweet realistic story or romantic parable? Bonnie has a fantastic voice but her character is so stupid and that whole B plot is awful. The ending is emotionally manipulative (successfully) but makes zero literal sense (see: what is the tone of this show?).
Clarke is absolutely the reason to see this show. The score is fine ... shades of SHREK and VIOLET. |
