... in the 1974-1975 season. The dreadful THE LIEUTENANT was nominated for Best Musical, even though it only ran 9 performances. No way all the Ton Voters could have seen it. There were three strong musicals nominated that season - THE WIZ )the winner), as well as SHENANDOAH, and MACK & MABEL. They could have just had 3 nominees like in 1961, 1970, 1971, and 1974. The TONYS work in fascinating ways. I always go back to he mystery of SOUTH PACIFIC winning Tonys fo two different seasons.
