I hope I'm not derailing the topic, and that anyone who has a chance to see the very good 1962 film is able to, but I've always wondered if the show wouldn't be better served by having Winthrop be older and a bit of a troublesome teen. He can still lisp, but having him choose music over hanging with the wrong crowd, say, would clearly give Marian a reason to look past Hill's lies and would also make the age difference between brother and sister Paroo more believable. Does the book demand that he be under 10, and would any of it suffer if he weren't? |
