Are actors just stating they are non-binary because it is the rage?

In the &Juliet biographies more than a few of the actors list themselves as non-binary and now some actors don't want to be nominated in any category because they don't believe in male and female parts. Certainly anyone can view themselves in any way they can but I don't think this is really helping the LGBTQ community in promoting everyone's rights. I think most Americans understand transgender and should be opposed to Curtailing rights but I fear that a lot of this is just because it is in vogue.
