I lived through the 90s, when people asked if all the teenagers saying they were gay was a trend… and it was not.
Were people in the closet about being non-binary in the past? Perhaps. For others, like myself, it’s more that there didn’t seem to be a societal acceptance of discussing or considering gender past the binary, even within our own consciousness. Thankfully, there have been some great pioneers who helped pave the way for others to feel more comfortable living in truth rather than lying to themselves and others. |
