THEATRE NOW TO PRESENT FIRST LOOK, SHOWCASING 5 NEW MUSICALS The event will feature Wade McCollum, Evy Ortiz, Rosharra Francis and more New York, NY, February 2, 2023 - Theatre Now will present First Look, a glimpse of new musicals in development in its Musical Writers Lab, on Friday, February 3rd at 7:30pm. The event is part of the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York reading series and will take place at the Jeffrey & Paula Gural Theatre at A.R.T./New York, 502 W 53rd St. Tickets may be requested at info@tnny.org. Excerpts from 5 new musicals will be showcased, each introduced by their writers. They include BABES AT SEA (book, music, & lyrics by Paul Cozby), CHRISTMAS EVE (book, music, & lyrics by Kit Goldstein Grant), CONFESSIONS OF A GAY PRIEST (book & lyrics by Jonathan Keebler, music by Bob Kelly), DANTES (book & lyrics by Kenny Harmon, music by Steve Wallace), and SAN (book, music, & lyrics by David Gosz and Leo Fotos). "We're honored to be part of A.R.T./New York's new works series, and proud to showcase the musicals being developed in our Lab" says Colleen Harris, Theatre Now's Managing Director. "We hope people attending the event will feel excited and inspired by the contributions these early and mid-career writers are making to the future of musical theatre." The cast includes Wade McCollum ( Wicked, Ernest Shackleton Loves Me), Ben McHugh ( Mamma Mia!, Sleep No More), Evy Ortiz ( The Fantasticks, Maria in the West Side Story national tour), Rosharra Francis ( Beautiful ), Hayden Stanes (Cinderella national tour), Sierra Rein (MAC and Bistro Award Winner, Sondheim Unplugged), Kyle Sherman ( Ordinary Days), Mark Peters (Come Back, Little Sheba), Kara Arena, Cedrick Ekra, Elisa Galindez, Coulter Ibanez, Christopher Michaels , Kyle Minshew, Bryan Munar, Carly Post, David Raposo, Chris Rothbauer, and Luke Sikora. Additional music direction by Nick Conner and accompaniment by Karl Hedrick. Casting is by Erik Schark. The featured musicals have been developed in part with Theatre Now's Musical Writers Lab, a community of 20 writing teams across the nation. Membership is through a highly selective application process. The Writers Lab meets bi-monthly to present new work at various stages and levels of development. The Lab offers its members a variety of developmental opportunities including Cabaret evenings of performances of new music, developmental workshop productions and licensing of new shows. Theatre Now is an artist service organization dedicated to the development, production, publication, and circulation of short and long- form musicals, by providing ongoing support for writers and their work in order to nurture voices and forms that push the boundaries of musical theatre. Theatre Now bridges the gap between early readings and fully produced theatrical runs by offering staged and performed developmental productions to pieces that are ready to live on their feet. They strive for continuity and growth in their production process by collaborating with artists on story development through song and dialogue and focusing on their prospective audience.
