In order to be nominated, Justin would have to commit to a category. He chose not to, and in sharing that with the world, she is bring much needed attention to the uncomfortable way they were asked to conform his identity to fit into the industry's narrow boxes. The act of not doing that is why it's important for her to share now, rather than committing to a category and then opting out, which they would no doubt be lambasted for.

Seeing as we had a talk just a week or two ago about "why don't non-binary people just pick a category to be in, I know that at least one non-binary performer is cool with that", this is very well-timed to get us looking at the real issues, which are the confines of gendered-categories and the larger prejudice against non-binary people.
