I’ve said this for years, and while I’d (otherwise) never want to be measured up against Sondheim, I think it would be extremely fun to build the score out with original songs inspired by his contributions to the film. Plus, the breadth of the potential audience when melding the fun-loving “machismo” of the property with the artistic integrity and intrigue of undersung Sondheim… I’d sure as hell buy a ticket.
