It is a shanda that he has never won a Pulitzer. If ever there was a case for an honorary Pulitzer for a body of work, he would be it.
I have said here before that I find it especially frustrating that Six Degrees lost to Lost in Yonkers, a play I find decidedly lesser Simon. I know my dislike of Lost in Yonkers is probably a minority opinion. It's not like I hate Simon. I think at least three or four Simon plays would have been deserving of a Pulitzer, but Lost in Yonkers is not one of them.
But then the Pulitzer for drama has a history of some pretty second-rate (and at least one or two third-rate) winners. |
