How about NO pre-show announcements, period? The list of commandments could be projected on a curtain or otherwise worked into a visual format. (It was done at The Band's Visit, in several show-related languages to boot.)
It's even worse at regional theatres, where "the art of the curtain speech" can easily go on for minutes and minutes. We need to get rid of this.
I want to take my seat, wait for the lights to dim to half, then out, and then for the show to start. That's the magic. Having someone talking at you about rules a lot of people don't care to hear anyway, is just too intrusive. |
