I tend to think I'd trade for some general audience "misbehavior" (so to speak) if we could get rid of the outsized hooting and hollering that goes on in place of applause.
Not long ago, I wet to go see a few friends in a local production of Sweeney Todd. They were very good, though the production itself was honestly terrible. But there was the one guy, somewhere near the back in the center of an aisle, that was over-loudly hooting and woo-woo-woo-ing after every single song, no matter the tone of the moment. I would have gladly had a couple near me talking throughout the show instead. Seriously. |
