When Ethel Merman published her autobiography, she did a signing at Bloomingdale's. I noticed a group of older women standing near me. One of them said, "We supported our girl." She held a copy of Merman's book and a Bloomindale's charge card bearing the store's original logo, a "B" made from ribbon.
I looked at the name on the card: "Mrs. Victor Moore." Moore had played Moonface in the original "Anything Goes," which of course starred "our girl." You can also see him do a great turn as a plumber in the film version of "The Seven Year Itch."
