I enjoy plays that create a whole world, and this one certainly does. Its setting in the rundown lunchroom of a Hobby Lobby is perfect. The characters are quirky but not over-the-top crazy, and they reveal themselves slowly. (Refreshingly, the "surprise" element is revealed very early in the play.)
The play has such a fresh feeling, despite having been written over a decade ago. The hopelessness of the lower middle class and the tenacity of the evangelical Christian church make it seem as if it was written yesterday.
All the elements adhere wonderfully: the acting, direction, set design, lighting, etc. Highly recommended. |
