I'm surprised that Beechman was considered a Featured Actress in JOSEPH. That role drives the show along and she is rarely off-stage. Sure, the show isn't ABOUT the Narrator, but you could hardly ask for a bigger presence in the show. I saw Beechman when she returned to the role at the Walnut in Philadelphia in 1989 opposite the Joseph of Sal Viviano. She was mesmerizing. You couldn't take your eyes off her and that is saying a lot because she was sharing the stage with a lot of mostly naked guys that you'd think might pull focus. Nope. She was a star.
Also surprised that Montevecchi won...I've always felt that the roles played by Akers and Morris were far more substantial than the others, although I can't really argue that they aren't still Featured Roles. Was there something so magical about Montevecchi in this role that she made it into more than exists on the page? |
