Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone! And if you look at the reviews of his recordings in the NYT's sidebar article by Joshua Barone they are pretty middling.
I honestly hope it works out for the NY Phil. I keep getting disappointed by my visits there. I don't know why exactly. It might be the hall or something about the general vibe.
