I went to the second Rouvali program and was very impressed. I wouldn't have minded him either.
Though apparently in spite of the Times' "oooh, here's another contender" reviews week after week, Borda's been working on nailing down Dudamel for months, and nobody was actually a contender. I did read something yesterday that implied she'd just been too late on people like Rouvali and Hannu Lintu, but apparently it's not as if the decision was just made yesterday.
I haven't actually heard Dudamel in person, despite the opportunities. The jacked-up ticket prices always keep me away. Hopefully this isn't an excuse to make the Dudamel price the everyday price. |
