It's selling *because* it's closing. And it's closing because it wasn't selling. They were losing $1m/month and didn't have prospects of good months to balance that. Shows like this can eat the bad weeks if they can be sure good weeks are coming, but they'll close like any other if losing weeks are all they have in sight.
If they extended again (which they've said pretty firmly they can't) I'd expect at least some of this business to dry up. People who rushed in for their last chance have already done so, and some who would will think "Oh, they don't mean it this time either" and not hurry. I don't know how NY consumer protection laws apply to theatre...I know there's something about a store can't announce a closing sale and then not close after raking in the last-chance business. |
