I had never heard "Silverware" before, but having listened now to both versions that have been attached I find I'm quite taken with it, and can see why Sondheim admired it. I like the melody, and I particularly like the way the melody keeps (deliberately) getting out of hand in those long, extended phrases that seem to violate the neat rules of 32-bar A-A-B-A. It is, as you say, a unique song.

Still, the song from We Take the Town that I wish I'd written is "How Does the Wine Taste?" I always wanted to write a slow tango that didn't morph into "No Other Love" within the first eight bars. It's harder than one might think!
