| Exactly. And who believes spots on a magazine formatted weekly network program are all hard news? What media ecosystem supports that supposition? Publicists secure feature-styled segments pitched as tie-ins to trending topics in the culture, i.e., non-binary actors in an update on the most famous cross-dressing comedy in film history is highly relevant, particularly at a moment when elected officials seek to turn the topic into a wedge issue. Arguably, the existence of the show at this sociopolitical moment is news. But sure, it's (called) a "hit." Broadway is show biz -- and so is television. |
