OR perhaps it was added just because it was a good idea. Up until that point in the show, we haven't seen the reactions of the public to a President being shot but Kennedy was the first to be assasinated in the age of television/mass media so it had a larger, earth-shattering impact on an entire generation.
This American never thought it was unnecessary. I thought it was a genius move for the reasons stated above, not because London audiences would need embellishment for the point to land. This additional song would speak to those who weren't there but whose parents/grandparents were and who likely remember it as if it were yesterday. Yes, audiences abroad get the benefit of that later material but so will generations of US audiences years from now when it further in the past. |
