Well, Mockingbird premiered a few months into the run of My Fair Lady - and that was a co-production between LCT and Rudin.
I'd also say that it's a strange way to frame the question, because (a) it hasn't actually been that long since My Fair Lady and Mockingbird, if you don't count the pandemic gap, and (b) they're a non-profit, so they have some infrastructure to take risks in between their money-makers, and that's sort of the point. I actually found it to be kind of admirable how much money they were willing to pour into The Skin of Our Teeth, despite it having very little in the way of money-making prospects. Same goes for Flying Over Sunset, to a lesser extent. |
