Hurrah for Love Life!!
I didn't read the article behind the paywall so apologies if this was addressed, but is City of Angels going to be one of those special shows (like Evita) or a straight up normal Encores offering?
I am thrilled to have the chance to see it--I was lucky enough to have cool parents who drove me a considerable distance to see the original LA production at the Shubert--but it seems the type of show that would just be done as a commercial revival. I know there has been divergence from the mission, but this show has pretty much all the things that a typical Encores show---say Love Life--doesn't. A favorably reviewed, commercially, artistically*, successful production that won several Tonys including best musical, multiple cast recordings that more than do the score justice, a few songs that have made their way into the repertoire, etc.
*subjective of course. the book sags at the end, but for a fun adult night out I don't know anyone who thinks it's not a high quality piece. |
