There is no capitalization behind the scenes or otherwise for a non-profit show. Because there is no "capital." There is a budget of course. There is also no such thing as recoupment because the very word suggests that someone is expecting to regain something, and by definition, no one is. It would be very rare indeed for a non-profit to depend only on ticket sales for revenue. In non-profit terms, that would be an utter failure.

In the case of LCT, while they seem to spend lavishly on productions, it is well to remember that many of their expenses are lower because they do things in house, thereby eliminating the extra profit of a middle[person], because the pay scales are, in some instances, lower, and they do not pay rent in the conventional sense on in-house shows, so here again there is no profit component (and I am pretty sure that the cost of operating the physical plant is largely if not entirely covered by donations). Finally, there is no cost associated with an outside producer (or, if there is one involved, it is viewed as a cost reduction). We talk periodically about the "exorbitant" pay of non-profit producers but the cost of a producer on a for-profit show is far greater.
