Nah. I'm with Broadway 1430. This Brit felt that everyone was loving it because it was 'British' and ignoring the holes in it, the thinly drawn characters, the cliches, that awful 'happy ending' Poppy deserves to be as miserable as she was to go back to her ex. The ending of Act 1 just came out of nowhere, certainly on the scale that it did. The show was about 1 flat in Park Hill and a few people around them and then suddenly every single person on the estate was going nuts? It was too forced, just to try and make a climatic end of Act 1. And, IMO, the score was a show stopping dud.
And I think it will win Best Musical too, but only because it'a seen as British, despite being against the superior Tammy Faye, which is widely seen as 'American' I would love to be proved wrong and see TF win though. |
