Songbook Sundays at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club hosted by Deborah Grace Winer A LITTLE BIT OF LERNER AND LOEWE featuring Christiane Noll, Matthew Scott, Ekep Nkwelle Sunday, March 26th 5 PM & 7:30 PM with ‘live streaming' options (NEW YORK, NY: Tuesday, March 15, 2023) Songbook Sundays, created and hosted by Deborah Grace Winer celebrating the American Songbook will continue at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's with A LITTLE BIT OF LERNER AND LOEWE on Sunday, March 26th at 5 PM and 7:30 PM at Dizzy's Club. A Little Bit of Lerner and Loewe swings the legendary songs of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe as Jazz at Lincoln Center American Songbook celebrates the first week of spring at Dizzy's Club. This Songbook Sundays jam party heats up the legendary tunes with a fresh jazz take on such hits as My Fair Lady, Brigadoon, Camelot, Gigi and Paint Your Wagon. Hosted and curated by leading American Songbook expert Deborah Grace Winer, the set features Lerner and Loewe's greatest songs—from The Street Where You Live and I Could Have Danced All Night to If Ever I Would Leave You and Almost Like Being in Love. Performers include, Tony Award nominee Christiane Noll, Broadway's stellar Matthew Scott and young JALC artist Ekep Nkwelle. Music director Tedd Firth leads an inter-generational band of jazz stars including Endea Owens on bass (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), Bryan Carter on drums (Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry), and JALC young artist Summer Camargo on trumpet (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis). Add in some breezy stories and it's a champagne-fizzy, celebration Sunday night at Dizzy's that, ah yes, you'll remember well. Ms. Winer said: "The joy of our new Songbook Sundays becoming so popular is that we've created a community here to come together at Dizzy's —musicians, vocalists and audiences—and revel in great music, harmony that goodness knows is not seen in the outside world…and just have fun and restore ourselves celebrating the joy in life." ‘Songbook Sundays' recently began its second year, after premiering last spring with "Got Gershwin" followed by salutes to Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin and Rodgers and Hart. It will continue with a celebration of Fats Waller (June 11). All shows are at 5pm and 7:30pm, and feature top vocal talent from Broadway, cabaret and jazz, with a diverse mix of young artists and veteran stars. Energy, fun, great music—welcoming new Songbook Sundays audiences from all over the world as well as a fresh new offering for JALC 's home audience. In the spirit of swing, the mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center is to entertain, enrich and expand the global community for jazz through performance, education and advocacy. Along with previous projects with Jazz at Lincoln Center, collaborations include Feinstein's/54 Below, Birdland, and a decade as Artistic Director of the 92Y's Lyrics & Lyricists™ concert series, presiding over 50 original shows and steering the venerable series back to audience and critical acclaim. She collaborates with top-tier artists from Broadway and the music world, and works with leading institutions. Author and dramatist, among her four books is On the Sunny Side of the Street: The Life and Lyrics of Dorothy Fields (Macmillan), recently named by the Wall Street Journal one of the Five Best books on American Songwriters. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, and her plays, off-Broadway and regionally. She has been featured on PBS American Masters, and NPR's "Fresh Air" and "Morning Edition." Christiane Noll (vocalist) is a Tony award nominee, with Broadway performances including Jekyll & Hyde, Ragtime, Urinetown and most recently, Dear Evan Hansen (for which she also appeared in the first National company). She appeared in TV's The Sound of Music Live! and numerous Off-Broadway and regional productions, including The Merry Widow at the Kennedy Center. Symphony and club appearances include the New York Pops, the National Symphony with Marvin Hamlisch and countless others across the country and internationally. Matthew Scott (vocalist) Broadway credits include An American in Paris, Sondheim on Sondheim, A Catered Affair and Jersey Boys. Off-Broadway: Beaches, Company, AC and Side By Side By Sondheim. Beyond Broadway, Matthew has starred in First You Dream: The Music of Kander and Ebb (Kennedy Center) and in the national tour of An American in Paris. Ekep Nkwelle (vocalist) is a JALC young artist whose appearances include Dizzy's Club, the Kennedy Center, DC Jazz Fest, Tri-C Jazz Fest, the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and International Jazz Day. A Cameroonian-American and graduate of Howard University, she is about to complete her master's degree in Jazz Voice from the Juilliard School. Tedd Firth (music director) is a New York City based musical director, pianist and arranger. His New York appearances include Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Blue Note, Birdland, the Iridium, the Algonquin, the Cafe Carlyle and Feinstein's at the Regency. Numerous national appearances include a performance at the White House as well as serving as musical director for Michael Feinstein's "Jazz and Popular Song" concert series at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
