That may be a dictionary definition, but it's not how the term is used widely in a colloquial way. And, as I said, by people who actually work in the theatre industry.

Unfortunately, words and phrases in accepted common usage often become so without regard to the strict dictionary definition. Check out "beg the question" for instance.
