Well, a key reason they'd record it, that you didn't note, is because as his estate they'd presumably have a very keen interest in the celebration, preservation, and recording of his work. HelloDolly has how many albums? 5? Are any *better* than the OBC? Not better. Were any really necessary or interesting enough besides the Pearl Bailey? Not if you ask me. Did they all sell undeniably well? I doubt it. Was the existence of other cast albums of the show the driving force behind any production that came after? I seriously doubt it. Maybe the show will be produced more in the 10 years after the Bette revival than it was the 10 years prior... but that's because a global singing and movie super star with a huge many-decades-spanning fan base starred in it.

Were any of the shows at Encores that got albums without transferring big sellers? Or did the existence of those albums create some kind of stir or demand for more productions? I doubt it.

My point is, the estates probably want something like this recorded as a testament to the work done by the author, and to have it heard with this new cast and live in posterity.
