| What makes this revival so important, yes I used that word, is we get to see a very different directorial approach from Hal Prince's original. I've seen two other revivals that did a lot with chairs but little with a POV. Michael Arden continues to astonish with his extraordinary approach to musicals. Even as flawed as this piece is overall, many of its shortcomings that seemed magnified in the original are now less obvious. This is meant to be a strong endorsement for anyone who is on the fence for any reason. |
