Dear World Questions -- Original Production

Did they ever release all the material that was being fought over during the original production? A friend of mine, who was a very small investor, said that it was court-ordered to be locked up for twenty-five years.

He also mentioned that Jerry Herman's original score was much more French feeling and that the fights, possibly with David Merrick, were what made the final result sound like more typical Broadway music of its time. Also, as written other places, Merrick was behind the insistence that the show have a title song, to mirror those of Hello, Dolly! and Mame, and Herman didn’t want that at all.

Has the show ever been revised following Herman’s guidelines?
