| Alexander Cohen produced it, not Merrick. I saw it early in previews and after opening. I felt Joe Layton made it brasher and more Dolly/Mame like after he took over the direction, but most of the more wistful "French" songs stayed in all along the way. I suspect any ongoing legal trouble was with Lawrence & Lee over the book not with Herman over the score. |
